Birthday Club is the project of Houston based singer/songwriter/producer, Stephen Wells. With a crop of talented players & friends from the city, Birthday Club's critically acclaimed debut EP, "Lighten Up," sneakily summons an off-kilter incarnation of hazily sun-drenched bedroom pop. With swirling Big Star-esque power pop riffs diving into wide open, spaced out hues, the release has found outlets like Consequence of Sound describing the band as "a force to be reckoned with."
During SXSW 2016, Birthday Club was selected as an official recording artist in the Converse Rubber Tracks Music Program, which assisted the band in final recording and production sessions for the upcoming release. The EP was mostly recorded live to tape, engineered and co-produced by a close-knit team consisting of Grammy Award winning engineer Erik Wofford and Chief Converse Rubber Tracks engineers Aaron Bastinelli and Justin Douglas, with mastering done by Michelle Mancini (Portugal. The Man, Fitz & The Tantrums) in Los Angeles, CA.
With the release of Birthday Club's single, "Having Too Much Fun," Wells and company set off an extensive month-long national tour, setting a nearly relentless pace of touring that held for the spring, summer and fall of 2017. Coming off the heels of an official SXSW appearance and a showcase performance at CMJ's new festival in NYC, Birthday Club is preparing to release new music in early 2018.
