Houston's indie rock scene isn't short of bands worth keeping an eye on, though many would argue that Astragal is the better of the new ones. Mixing dream pop elements with shoegaze and traditional indie rock structures, the three piece creates a sound that reminds you of the pedal soaked sounds of The Cure and Ride without really copying either. Anyone who catches the trio live is caught off guard by their energetic and intense performances that almost contradict the shoegaze genre they're tied to. On their latest, a split with emo act Donna Hayward from Miss Champagne Records, they prove that you can't judge a band by their youthful appearance. Astragal will spend 2017 touring with Holy Golden and 2018 performing in support of Split while beginning recording on its follow up.
